               Process to Get Enrolled for Research( R D E T)

After Qualifying the test-    candidates  will  appear for  P re -P h. D. course work Examination after six Months Duration.  Examination  will be conducted on :--                                          I  Paper    Research Methodology  

II  Paper    Recent  Advances  in The Subject

                               III   (Pilot Study  ) On the one Topic comprising around 100 pages

( Each paper will carry 100 marks ,minimum qualifying 40%, equally divided between external & internal assessment)

Application Form for  the above examination should be obtained from the university  and  should reach the  Directorate of R&E on or before  the due date along with prescribed fee  of   RS. 3000.

After  Passing  this  Exam The candidate  will get enrolled  for research.

After  getting  enrolled  the candidate has to submit the synopsis  in consultation with his/her Supervisor latest  by  31st  March or  by  15th April  after depositing late fee worth  RS. 500 to the Registrar( research) Kumaun University Nainital.

Ph.D. form for registration .......................................................................... Rs. 1000

Submission of  Synopsis (signed by the Supervisor) by the Researcher( 10 Copies) -----   2000.

Research Period  from the date of registration which will be the date of approval of the Synopsis

Minimum ------2 Years

Maximum------4 Years

Extension  ..... 

One year extension period may be granted by the University.  For which application with  "Show Cause " has to be submitted  to the Registrar  ( Research) K.U. Nainital , 3 months  before the expiry of  4 years.


 After the expiry of above 5 years of registration , one year period may be allowed  for     re-registration . Candidate has to submit an application as stated earlier . It will   further cost   2000 for re-registration.

Pre-Ph.D.Seminar....After completion of Thesis a pre-seminar will be organized at the work place of Supervisor/Director.

No T.A./D.A. will be paid for this. A certificate of pre-seminar and thesis is required to be submitted at the University.

In this connection no correspondence will be made by the University.

Final Submission of Thesis....After Pre-submission Seminar -The Thesis may be submitted within one 

                                                   week or two period.

8.  No-Dues Central Library , K.U. Nainital


Thesis must be forwarded by H.O.D. and the Supervisor. Do not make any changes in the topic earlier Recommended.

Do write at both sides of the page in the thesis with the margin of 1.5"

Thesis Evaluation Fee ---- Rs.10000

 1- first instalment at the time of registration Rs. 5000  

 2- second instalment at the time of submission of thesis Rs. 5000

or  Rs.15000 in case of submission of D.Sc./ D.Litt. Thesis.

 Viva for awarding  Degree of Ph.D. will be held at the work-place of Director/Supervisor

Any Post -graduate student of the Kumaun  University or its affiliated colleges who have appeared or are appearing final year / IV semester shall also be eligible for appearing in Ph.D. Entrance Test, provided they fulfill minimum qualification required for admission in  the RDET when the result is declared.

No supervisor shall supervise the work of more than 04 candidates in the case of Assistant Professor, 06 in case of an Associate Professor and 08 candidates in case of a Professor at a time. A regular teacher ( with P h.D.) of the K.U. or a college affiliated to it -having one year P G  teaching experience  and having expertise in related research area may become the supervisor.
